Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology

Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi (aka. IIIT-Delhi or IIIT-D) was created as a State University by an act of Delhi Government (The IIIT Delhi Act, 2007) empowering it to do research and development and grant degrees. IIIT-Delhi was officially established on 10th June, 2008 as per this notification in the Delhi Gazette. First class (for BTech(CSE) students) was held on 8th September, 2008.
The institute began with its first batch of 60 BTech students in 2008. This first batch graduated in 2012 - the first Convocation took place in November, 2012. By that time, the institute has attracted nearly 30 faculty members, and its academic program consisted of B.Tech., M.Tech. and Ph.D. programs in CSE and ECE. In a relatively short time, it has earned a good reputation in India and abroad for being a center of quality education and research in IT. 2012 turned out be more remarkable year because during the summer of this year, the institute started functioning from its permanent campus in Okhla. Smt. Sheila Dikshit, Chief Minister of Delhi, inaugurated the campus in October, 2012.

Hostel Facilities

IIIT Delhi provides accommodation to students wishing to reside in the hostels. At present, there are two hostels, one for the boys having 372 seats and another for the girls with 164 seats. Each room in both the hostels is provided with furniture needed by a student - bed, table, chair, bookshelf, cupboard, etc. The rooms are provided night time air conditioning in summers.There is a common mess for the boys and girls which function during the working semester. Air conditioning is provided in the mess during lunch time. During the winter and summer vacations, a special mess is run for students who are required to stay in the hostels for pursuing academic, sports or cultural activities. It is compulsory for all hostel residents to avail the mess facilities. Day-scholars can eat in the mess by paying the meal cost as notified. In addition to the common mess, there are two cafeterias, one located in the academic building and the other in the common mess building which caters to the needs of the students and faculty. All hostel students are completely free to move around the campus at all times, and some of the study areas are open 24x7 for the benefit of students.

Sports Facilities

Sports enthusiasts will find plenty to engage themselves at IIIT Delhi, from intra-college events like football, table tennis, pool tournaments and the Intramural, to external events like the Delhi Half Marathon and Twaran, the inter-IIIT sports meet.

The institute is equipped with a number of indoor and outdoor sports facilities. The top floor of the Dining Block houses a gymnasium, table tennis tables, and pool tables, while chess boards and carrom boards are available in the hostel common rooms. The institute also has a multi-purpose sports field, two tennis courts, a basketball court, a volleyball field and two badminton courts.

Placement Comment

Placements at IIIT Delhi has seen significant growth over the years. The campus host 85+ companies each year from various segments : IT, CSE, ECE, Research, Consulting & Finance.
Highest Indian compensation offered to our students lies between 32-34 lakhs.
Average compensation has been constantly rising between 11-13 lakhs with Median salaries between 9-10 lakhs.

The campus has opened doors for various internships which includes summer, winter and long internships to both final and pre-final year students. The stats are improving with each passing year.
Year 2016 hosted 46+ companies with a highest stipend of 85 k & the average stipend of 25K per month.
