University Of Nottingham

Nottingham's first civic college was opened in the city centre in 1881, four years after the foundation stone was laid by former Prime Minister, W E Gladstone. An anonymous benefactor had offered £10,000 for a college on condition that a suitable building be erected by the Council and that the college should be provided with £4,000 a year. In 1948, the college was awarded the Royal Charter and became The University of Nottingham, now able to award degrees in its own name. During this period the School of Agriculture was established when the Midland College of Agriculture at Sutton Bonington merged with the University. The University of Nottingham's position as a world-class University is confirmed by its ranking in the global league tables. We are ranked in the UK and European top 30 and in the top 1 per cent of all universities worldwide.

Admission Criteria & Eligibility

Class XII or Standard 12 (10+2) examinations from CBSE, ISCE or a state board are acceptable for admission onto our bachelors programmes. We will generally ask for the best of four subjects, and any subject-specific requirements will reflect the overall percentage required (eg. 85% in best four subjects including 85% in Maths).Students who have taken a 3 year diploma after Class 11 instead of the Class XII exams can be considered for second year entry to our bachelors programmes.

Typical offers for a course requiring A level grades of AAA / AAB would be:

  • CBSE and ISC– 85-90%
  • West Bengal – 75-80%
  • Other State Boards – 90%

70% in Year 12 English from CBSE or ISC can be considered as meeting the minimum English language entry requirement, although some courses may ask for a higher grade.

On 20 February 2015, the UK government announced important changes to Secure English Language Tests (SELT) for Visa purposes.

If you make a Visa application to stay or move to the UK, you need to be aware of changes made by United Kingdom Visas & Immigration (UKVI).
